Closed Loop Pressure Control for the Extrusion Process

چکیده

Extrusion is a continuous process and successful economic production depends on maintaining stable output and melt quality at an accurately controlled rate. Current screw design technology, the use of DC drives, computerized controllers and raw material testing help to deliver the melt to the extrusion die at relatively constant temperature, pressure and viscosity. However, even the slightest variation in the raw material or process will affect product dimensions. The manufacturing of small diameter tubing which must be held to ± 0.001” or less dimensional tolerances, is particularly sensitive to process instabilities. In the production environment, variations in the raw material and process do occur. Mechanical parts wear, monitors vary in speed, temperatures go above and below setpoint and ambient conditions change. Some plastic materials are sensitive to moisture and storage temperature. All these conditions are subject to change and they all affect the stability of the extruder output and the product quality (1). The extruder screw is the one item that most influences the quality and quantity of the melt produced by the machine. The most common extruder screw design has a feed zone, transition zone and metering zone. Each of these zones within the extruder must perform a specific function simultaneously to achieve stable output.

A Taguchi approach on optimal process control parameters for HDPE pipe extrusion process

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes find versatile applicability for transportation of water, sewage and slurry from one place to another. Hence, these pipes undergo tremendous pressure by the fluid carried. The present work entails the optimization of the withstanding pressure of the HDPE pipes using Taguchi technique. The traditional heuristic methodology stresses on a trial and error appr...

Dynamic Load Carrying Capacity of Mobile-Base Flexible-Link Manipulators: Feedback Linearization Control Approach

This paper focuses on the effects of closed- control on the calculation of the dynamic load carrying capacity (DLCC) for mobile-base flexible-link manipulators. In previously proposed methods in the literature of DLCC calculation in flexible robots, an open-loop control scheme is assumed, whereas in reality, robot control is achieved via closed loop approaches which could render the calculated ...

Prediction of Extrusion Pressure in Vortex Extrusion Using a Streamline Approach

Vortex extrusion (VE) is a severe plastic deformation technique which is based on the synergies between high strain accumulation and high hydrostatic pressure. Such a high amount of pressure, places a mandate to seek the method for investigation of the load under processing conditions. For this, kinematically admissible velocity field and upper bound terms based on Bezier formulation are develo...

Impact of government’s policies on competition of two closed-loop and regular supply chains

With progressing technologies and new features of production, new products compete with older ones in markets. Indeed, new products initiate contest with olden ones and this process repeats in different productions lifetime several times. In this situation recycling the olden products seems to be significant for supply chains. Governments often levy special tariffs for these products as a contr...

Experimental and Finite Element Analyses of the Hydrostatic Cyclic Expansion Extrusion (HCEE) Process with Back-Pressure

It is generally known that severe plastic deformation processes with back pressure not only apply higher hydrostatic stress and more deformation compared to what a regular process can apply to a workpiece but also prevent surface defects in the workpiece during the process. Hydrostatic cyclic expansion extrusion (HCEE) was developed recently for processing long ultrafine-grained metals and allo...
